In Memory
The Aesop Robinson Golf Association was established in 1980. It is an organization devoted to development of friendship and camaraderie through participation in golf. The formal organization is the result of the tragic death of Sergeant First Class (Retired) Aesop Robinson. His death occurred during a round of golf being played at Enterprise Golf Course with a loosely knit group of area golfing friends. Because little was known about his personal life, notification of his family was difficult and delayed. This led to recognition of the need for a formal organization that was formed and then named in memory of SFC Robinson - the "Aesop Robinson Golf Association."
While assigned to Headquarters Support Company, 575th Engineer Battalion (Construction), Fort Belvoir, Virginia, he assisted in the expansion of the Applewood Course from nine to eighteen holes. He was personally responsible for the fifth hole and the shaping and design of its challenging green.
